1. Let the Discs Fly
Relax along the waterfront and enjoy a competitive game of disc golf at Lake Fenwick Park. (Don’t forget to pack discs!) Spend the afternoon exploring the trail — through the woods and up the 177 metal stairs — or picnic in the park.
2. Putter Around
Challenge your family and friends to a round of miniature golf at Kent Valley Ice Centre. The 18-hole outdoor course winds around a 10-foot waterfall. Bring your own putter or rent one there. Admission with club rental is $10 per person plus tax.
3. Launch Into Space
Sit behind the wheel of the Lunar Rover replica or turn the knobs on a Mission Control panel at the space-themed Kherson Park downtown. A first-of-its-kind free mobile phone app, called Space for Kidz, enhances your park visit with augmented reality experiences.
4. Feed Your Need for Speed
Admire the brawn and beauty of the boats displayed at the nation’s only public museum dedicated to powerboat racing. The Hydroplane & Raceboat Museum charges just $10 general admission for a day exploring the past and present of the PNW’s fastest sport on water.
5. Connect Through Culture
Experience different cultures or connect with your own heritage in Kent, the fifth-most diverse city in the U.S. Visit the many Asian shops inside the Great Wall Shopping Mall, peruse the Afghan products at Tolo International Halal Market, or sample Mexican sweets from La Huerta International Market. Kent’s global dining scene includes food from Turkey, Greece, Venezuela, India and much more (all have items under $10). Check the Visit Kent calendar for free cultural events such as the Kent International Festival, Cajun Fest and the summer concert series.
6. Go Back in Time
Flash back to the past at the Greater Kent Historical Museum. Wander through permanent exhibits and see the seven period rooms decked out in the styles of the turn of the 20th century. Admission is $2 per person, free the first Wednesday of each month.
7. Traverse the Trails
Soak in the scenery and fresh air on Kent’s robust trail system. Paved and perfect for walking, running, bicycling or pushing a stroller, the trails offer healthy activity and a mental reset. The Kent Valley Loop Trails, Green River Trail, Interurban Trail and Soos Creek Trail feature easy entry points, Mount Rainier views, park access and varying lengths with regional connections.
8. Take a Self-guided Art Tour
Discover the colorful, creative side of Kent with a free self-guided tour of the city’s public art. Murals, sculptures, utility boxes, totem poles and more are identified on maps of three sections around Kent: downtown, East Hill and West Hill. Take photos and compare favorites with your art-loving friends.
