Spring into Kent for trails, treats and raceboats

Ready to get out and have fun with your family? A spring weekend or day trip to Kent can include food trails, biking trails and raceboats.

Consider the following activities for fun before, during and after spring break.

  • If you’ve spent the last two years in fast food drive-thru lines and curbside to-go orders, reintroduce your kids to sit-down dining. Kent Food Trails includes a kid-friendly food trail where menus bring smiles and the environment is comfortable for all.

  • Size up the hydroplanes you may have only seen on TV. The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum features vintage raceboats, restoration projects, video clips, memorabilia and history of the iconic PNW water sport. Stop by to see restoration projects in progress.

  • Greet spring with a bike ride, run or walk on the Kent Valley Loop Trails. The paved and mostly flat five-loop trail system connects you with parks, picnic areas and downtown Kent. Nearly every mile includes scenic views of the Green River Valley and Mount Rainier. For longer outings, use the loop trails to join the Interurban and Green River trails.
  • Jangle the chains every time you score on the disc golf course at Lake Fenwick Park. Bring your own discs and be prepared for a fun, challenging course through woods and sometimes swampy ground. Pack binoculars, too, for wildlife and bird watching on the lake’s floating walkway and trails.
  • Venture out to the special programs at Mary Olson Farm. Each Thursday in May, the “Farm Tots” program teaches kids ages 3-5 about nature, history and farm life. Caregivers must stay with their children. Registration now open for the one-hour weekly sessions.
  • Bonus tip: Follow Game Kastle on Facebook so you’ll be one of the first to know when this new gaming store opens in downtown Kent.
