Fall fun in Kent: farms, music, food trails and hockey

October 12, 2021, Kent, Wash.—Fall in Kent isn’t like fall in other places. Yes, there are the sprawling pumpkin patches and hay rides, but alongside them are hockey and craft beer, food trails and concerts. Kent is a basecamp for sampling global cuisine and entertainment as well as a relaxing rural escape.

Here are some ideas to inspire fun times this fall:

At Carpinito Brothers you’ll find the perfect pumpkin on their 20 acres, catch a hayride or take on the corn maze. (This year’s theme: UW vs. WSU.) Younger kids love the Farm Fun Yard with its corn pit, farm animals, hay slides, barnyard bowling, overhead goat walk and more.

Breezy summer hikes are done for the year, but Kent’s five self-guided food trails are always open. New additions to the International Eats Trail—think Thai, Kenyan, Indian and Chinese cuisines–will introduce you to new cultures and flavors. Other trails make it easy to explore seasonal farm-fresh bites and kid-friendly kitchens.

Seattle Thunderbirds hockey is back on the ice at accesso ShoWare Center in downtown Kent. Start with a pregame celebration of locally made brews at Airways Taproom and Brewery or Half Lion Public House.

Concerts and Disney on Ice coming to ShoWare, too. Fill up before or after the show at Agave Cocina & Cantina, Maza Grill, Nana’s Southern Kitchen or the kid-pleasing Johnny Rockets.

Kent’s musical diversity shines in the Spotlight Series sponsored by the Kent Arts Commission. Performances range from tap dancing to The Drifters to Hawaiian music.

If you’re thinking that sounds too ambitious for a day trip, you’re right! So make a weekend of it–or even a long weekend–by staying a night or two. Affordable hotels are a short distance to ShoWare Center, Kent Station and leaf-peeping trails. You’ll find deals for booking online and reserving early, or earn extra member rewards with seasonal specials. All hotels are following state and federal COVID-19 safety protocols so you can rest easy.
